As my journey into the slow + sustainable fashion movement continues, let me introduce you to one of my favorite ethical brands when it comes to everyday basics, under- and active wear: Organic Basics. Before last year I had never given much thought to how the clothes I’m wearing were produced, who makes them and what’s in them. It wasn’t until discovering ‘The True Cost’ on Netflix that I learned about the huge strain fast fashion has on our planet. Turns out the fashion industry is a dirty bastard! I couldn’t believe how much fast fashion companies contribute to worldwide pollution, not even talking about unfair labor conditions and the harm that is done to the people producing our clothes.
I’m still nowhere near perfect, but about 80% of my clothes are either second-hand or supporting sustainable fashion labels like Organic Basics. In case you have never heard about them before (they’re around since 2015), Organic Basics is a Copenhagen based company, specializing in underwear and everyday basics in organic cotton and recycled textiles. In contrast to so many other companies, trying to green wash their sustainability efforts, at Organic Basics they really mean it – they only choose fabrics that care for our environment and only ever partner with factories that care about their impact, too!
Now if you want to try any of their items, make sure to use KIRSTENOBX for a 10% discount (works worldwide, no minimum purchase required). Plus you’ll get free shipping for all orders above €80/$100.
Over the last year I’ve been trying several of their products and I’m completely convinced by their comfortable fit, quality and design! My go-to’s are:
- SilverTech Active line
- made with premium Italian recycled nylon (GRS certified) and is basically stronger and more durable than the highest standard conventional nylon. It’s made from pre-consumer textile waste that would otherwise go to the landfill, or worse. Plus, it takes 80% less water to make and creates 90% fewer CO2 emissions in comparison to the virgin fabric. The nylon is breathable, lightweight and best of all, moisture-wicking.
- I have the leggings, sports bra and long sleeve in black and red and wear them all the time for yoga, running or also just as comfy home clothes as they’re super nice on the skin
- Women’s tee, socks + briefs
- basic cotton shirts are such an essential item in my wardrobe, as I style and match them with almost everything! Normally the cotton shirts I buy from the big brands quickly loose their shape after a few times in the laundry machine. Not these ones!!! I’ve had the organic cotton tee’s in black and white + the silvertech everyday tee (also in white) for over a year now and they still look like new (I have them in XS, S and M depending on the fit I want)! They’re also extremely comfy and feel very soft and smooth on the skin. Same with the socks and briefs – ultra comfy and long lasting!
- TENCEL collection
